Abstract

The number of workforce in South Sumatra in August 2015 reached 3,934,787 people, an increase of around 49,113 people compared to the August 2014 workforce of 3,885,674 people or 83,075 people less than in February 2015 of 4,017,862 people.
The population working in South Sumatra Province in August 2015 reached 3,695,866 people, an increase of around 3,060 people compared to the situation in August 2014 which amounted to 3,692,806 people or decreased by around 119,777 people compared to the condition in February 2015 which was 3,815,643 people.
The Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) in South Sumatra Province in August 2015 reached 6.07 percent, experiencing an increase compared to the TPT in August 2014 which amounted to 4.96 percent and February 2015 TPT which was 5.03 percent.
Based on the number of hours worked in August 2015, 2,286,565 people (61.87 percent) worked above 35 hours per week, while the population worked with a number of working hours of less than 15 hours per week reaching 163,489 people (4.42 percent)
In the August 2015 period, the majority of the population worked in the agricultural, plantation, forestry, hunting and fisheries sectors which reached around 54.74 percent of the total working population.
In August 2015, the population working at the elementary school level and below was still dominating at 1,801,827 people (48.75 percent), while the population worked with diploma education at 95,638 people (2.59 percent) and the population worked with university education only amounting to 235,263 people (6.37 percent).
